Setup step 1 :

Go to the Google custom search start page:

Programmable Search Engine | Google Developers

1. Click the GET STARTED link.
2. Click the "create an instance of a Custom Search Engine" link.
3. Click the Control Panel link.
4. Click Add.
5. Add your forum URL and Create.

Setup step 2 :

Go to the Google custom search options page in XenForo and enter your Search engine ID.

Setup step 3 :

Go to the Google custom search setup page :

Sign in - Google Accounts

Select Image search.

Select Full width layout.

Disable the Automatic thumbnails in search results option.

Enable Results Browsing History and set Link Target to _self.

Google custom search v1.5 changes : Now compatible with XF 2.2.12.

Google custom search v1.6 changes : Added 'Return to forums' link in results page.
